UN team coming to Bangladesh to investigate atrocities against Hindus – will provide evidence of murder, arson and violence, says minority

A fact-finding mission of the United Nations Human Rights Commission has arrived in the capital Dhaka to investigate violence against minorities and others following the resignation of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The UN delegation will stay in Bangladesh for a month. Hindu minority communities across Bangladesh continue to report atrocities against members of the Hindu community. In addition to this, there are reports of the emergence of Jamaat-e-Islami and other similar extremist groups.

A UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) delegation came to Bangladesh to investigate atrocities against minorities and others and tried to establish contact with the Hindu minority. Hindu groups told Aaj Tak that they would meet the delegation and provide evidence of killings, destruction and burning of public and private properties between July 1 and August 5.

Request time to meet with the UN team

On behalf of the Bangabandhu Foundation, he sought time to meet the UN delegation and submit a complaint with evidence. The organization also wrote a letter to the UN Secretary-General. The subject of the letter was, “Consider the killings that took place in Bangladesh between July 15 and August 15, 2024, to provide justice.”

The letter said: “We are pleased to learn that the United Nations High Commissioner’s Office is assisting the interim government of Bangladesh in investigating the recent killings during the quota reform movement and the destruction of homes of minority communities, religious institutions, leaders and workers of the Bangladesh Awami League, while a report from your office states that more than 600 people were killed between July 16 and August 11, 2024.”

The Bangabandhu Foundation has requested the United Nations to send forensic and weapons experts to investigate the entire incident and the killings.”
