Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, Bajaj Auto, who has been at the forefront of the transition from simple scooters to high-performance motorcycles (popular bikes like the Pulsar), commented on the electric motorcycling segment on August 26, saying, “Scooters are in a much stronger position than motorcycles in the EV format.”

At the same time, he dismissed domestic brands promoting innovation in electric motorcycles and commented on the sales figures of electric motorcycle manufacturer Ultraviolette, saying, “There is nothing ultra about Ultraviolette’s sales.”

Bengaluru-based startup Ultraviolette has not only responded to this comment of Rajiv Bajaj but has also given a special challenge to Bajaj Auto regarding this.

Ultraviolette co-founder Narayan Subramaniam hit back at Rajeev’s comments in an interaction with a leading channel and issued a clear challenge to Bajaj Auto, saying, “We will not be known for just value engineering.”

Responding to Rajiv Bajaj’s statement, Subramaniam has challenged the motorcycles of his Pune-based company Bajaj Auto to compete with Ultraviolette motorcycles in a race event to be held in Ambi Valley.

“We will be at Bajaj Auto’s courtyard in Aamby Valley in 90 days for a race format event,” Subramaniam said.

He said, “We invite Bajaj Auto to bring forward the best they have with decades of R&D and billions of dollars in the bank.”
