After watching Jhanvi Kapoor’s new film ‘Ulj’, if I have to give a review of it in one line, then I would say that it is a very complicated film. ‘Exciting’ is not complicated, ‘boring’ is complicated.

Let’s start with the story. The story of the film is based on a girl named Suhana Bhatia (Jhanvi Kapoor). Suhana is the daughter of India’s famous diplomat Vanraj Bhatia (Adil Hussain). His grandfather was India’s representative in the UN, whose name is written in the civics books of Indian children. So the bottom line is that Suhana is from a strong political family. But his character is similar to Ranvijay Singh of ‘Animal’. She also drinks the drink of her father’s choice.

Suhana Bhatia has serious daddy issues. Due to her work and mental thinking, the daughter has been made Deputy High Commissioner at a young age, but Suhana’s father is not very happy. Suhana cries and asks them to believe in themselves and then does such stupid things that you think that her father is right, he is not trustworthy.

After Suhana gets a big post, she gets transferred to London. Here he gets his personal driver, whose name is Salim (Rajesh Tailang). Salim says that he will take care of Suhana in an unknown city. If needed, Suhana can call him even at midnight. In such a situation, when Suhana sees a wrinkle on her face, he immediately offers help. Then you come to know that Salim is not a straight man. This picture is so predictable.

Despite working in such a big embassy, Suhana gives her heart to a stranger without knowing and understanding him. This unknown man reveals his name as Nakul (Gulshan Devaiah). But Suhana, entangled in Nakul’s sweet talks, forgets to check his background. Now, being a diplomat, what will happen if you hang out with any random person and spend the night with him? Whatever you are thinking. Nakul takes advantage of Suhana’s stupidity and blackmails her. Under pressure, Suhana starts leaking important and confidential documents of India. Now his career is at stake. Besides, his father’s respect and position has also been affected.

What did Sudhanshu do?

Director Sudhanshu Saria has directed this film. Seeing this film of Sudhanshu, who has made films like Loev (2015) and Sana (2023), it seems that he is directing a film for the first time. The story of the film has been written by Sariya along with Parveez Shaikh. Seeing some parts of it, you feel that yes, maybe on paper this story may have seemed full of interest and thrill. But putting it on screen is a different thing. And many parts of it are completely worn out.

A person sitting in a big position, who commits minor stupidity and then has to face various problems because of it. We have seen all this in different styles in many Bollywood films. The lead character’s mind is very sharp, but when the plot requires it, he will become the dumbest person in the world. And then when he is immersed from head to toe in the ocean of troubles, he remembers that hey, I have the mind of Chacha Chaudhary, let’s catch the villain.

Uljh has been made in a very boring style. Its screenplay is so loose that you wait for it to end. By the time one hour of the movie passes, you understand why it is called ‘Uljh’, because you remain confused between what the director wants to show, what characters the actors are playing and what is happening on the screen. . Then you understand that all these together are making us crazy. The makers feel that how will the audience know that they are trying to fool them.

Jhanvi has no strength

There is no special strength in the characters of the film. Its weakest point is its lead heroine Jhanvi Kapoor. Jhanvi has played the character of Suhana with exactly the same energy with which Suhana Khan played the character of Veronica in ‘The Archies’. His dialogue delivery is quite irritating. There is no special substance in his work. In the name of acting, Jhanvi definitely knows how to deliver flat dialogues with tears in her eyes. His expressions are almost the same in every scene. His screams in some scenes tear your ears.

There is very little to be said about Jhanvi Kapoor’s character. Suhana Bhatia gets a major detail in one sequence. In such a situation, she goes to the person who has betrayed her. First she confronts him and kills him and then while he is dying she asks him, ‘Why did you do this?’, ‘Where are my documents?’, ‘Who do you work for?’ Now I am not an expert, but sister, all these things are said to a man when he is alive.

The film stars Gulshan Devaiah, who plays the role of Nakul. Nakul has many names and many identities, in which Gulshan has done wonders. From romance with Jhanvi to villainy, Gulshan has played his role brilliantly. Actors Miang Chang, Roshan Mathew, Adil Hussain and others have also brought life to their characters. A scene involving Chang is one of the best scenes of the film. There is also a head-eating character named Elena in ‘Uljh’, who would have been fun if someone had shot him. I don’t want to talk any more about this picture.
