What is Ramsar site and convention?
Ramsar sites are actually wetlands spread in different parts of the world. In 1971, a convention was signed by UNESCO to conserve wetlands around the world to maintain biodiversity. This convention took place in Ramsar, Iran. Many countries had signed the International Wetland Treaty here. Since then, in different countries of the world, wetlands rich in biodiversity are identified and protected by giving them the tag of Ramsar site.
