‘Tumbbad’ got immense popularity after coming on OTT, but now the public has a chance to once again love this film in theatres. Let us tell you why one should not miss the opportunity to go to theatres for the re-release of ‘Tumbbad’…

20 years of hard work of the director
Rahi Anil Barve wrote the first draft of the story of ‘Tumbbad’ in 1997, when he was only 18 years old. The script was changed many times, work on the film started many times. 7 production houses agreed to make this film but then backed out and work on this film started and stopped 3 times.

In 2008, Barve started working on ‘Tumbbad’ with Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead role, but then the producer backed out and the film got stuck again. Finally, the film started being made in 2012 with Soham Shah and almost 20 years after the first draft was written, it hit the screens in 2018. When ‘Tumbbad’ reached the screens with a wonderful combination of folklore, mythology and horror, it was as if magic happened in front of the eyes of the audience.

Soham Shah’s unmatched hard work
Soham Shah was cast in 2012 as the lead character Vinayak in ‘Tumbbad’ and he also joined the story as a producer. For this role, Soham gained 8 kg of weight and maintained his special look for 6 years during the completion of the film.

The film was based on Marathi background, so Soham, who comes from Rajasthan, worked a lot on his language. After seeing his work in the film, people became his fans. The way Soham portrayed the character of Vinayak on screen is a great example of acting in Indian cinema.

As a producer, Soham Shah made every effort to complete ‘Tumbaad’ and bring it to the screen. Soham, who is a real estate businessman, sold many of his properties to complete this film. But he later said that ‘Tumbaad’ was a good investment for him.

A film made in a completely authentic way
Monsoon was a huge part of the story of the film. The idea was to show the entire story happening under the cover of dark clouds, which would give the audience the feel of the dreadful rainy season. For this, the entire film was shot in natural light without sunlight. The entire shoot took place during the monsoon and many scenes were shot in natural rain and months were waited for the right weather.

To give the right mood to the story, modern lighting was completely avoided, many scenes were shot using more than 50 lamps. The director had told in an interview that many scenes of ‘Tumbbad’ were shot at such locations where no human had gone for a hundred years. The evil god Hastar seen in the story of the film was completely prepared with prosthetic makeup. In the climax, Hastar’s scene in the womb of the earth was shot in the light of only one lamp.

The intensity with which ‘Tumbaad’ was made is visible in every scene of the film and it is something to be experienced on the big screen.
