Trump announces new US ambassadors to NATO and Canada, tensions between EU and Trudeau

Washington: After finalizing the list of cabinet ministers, newly elected US President Donald Trump is now finalizing the list of US ambassadors to important countries. Meanwhile, on Wednesday he announced the appointment of Acting Attorney General Matthew G. Whitaker as U.S. ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Since then, former Canadian MP Piet Hoekstra has been nominated. As the names were announced, tensions began to rise between the European Union and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Both names are very close to Trump. Trump chooses names that win people’s loyalty to him. Therefore, the EU and Canada are rightly concerned. Previously, Trump also finalized the name of the Israeli ambassador. Hoekstra, one of the candidates nominated to be ambassador to Canada, has represented Michigan’s 2nd District in Congress (the U.S. House of Representatives) for nearly 20 years. During this time, he also served as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. Trump said Whitaker will ensure that U.S. interests are advanced and protected.

Who is Matthew and who will NATO send?

Trump said: “Matthews will strengthen our relationships with NATO allies and resolutely respond to threats to peace and stability.” He will take the United States to new heights. “In my second term, Pete (former Congressman Pete Hoekstra) will once again help me take America to greater heights,” he said. He has served with distinction during his first four years as U.S. Ambassador to the Netherlands, and I am confident he will continue to better represent our country in this new role. ” (language)
