Ramesh Juneja, a resident of Meerut, started his job as a Medical Representative (MR). In 1974, he used to travel by UP Roadways buses to sell the company’s medicines. He used to travel from Meerut to Purkaji every day by roadways buses. From prescribing medicines to people to waiting for hours for doctors, he had to do everything. In 1975, he joined Lupin Pharma. After working there for 8 years, he resigned from this company in 1983.

one incident changed my life
During his MR, he had come to know everything about this field. Once when he was standing at a chemist’s shop and telling him about his company’s medicines, a person came to the shop at that time. The person needed medicine, but did not have money. To pay the medical bill, he had brought silver jewellery with him. He was giving his jewellery in exchange for the medicine, at that very moment Ramesh Juneja decided that he would make such medicines which would reach the common people. They would be within the budget of the people and no one would have to sell the jewellery. Then what, he opened a pharma company named Bestochem along with his friend, but he could not succeed.

Opened business with brother
After leaving Bestocam in 1994, he started Mankind Pharma with his brother. Ramesh failed at first, but learned a lot. With the start of Mankind Pharma, he invested Rs 50 lakh in this company. During this time, he joined 25 medical representatives. The company did wonders in the first year itself. In the beginning, the valuation of the company reached Rs 4 crore.

How did the company become successful?
The factors behind the success of Mankind Pharma were affordable prices and aggressive marketing and sales pitch. Some people considered this company an overnight success, but Juneja always kept his strategy clear and focused on increasing its valuation. The situation is such that today the market cap of this company has reached Rs 95846 crore.

Some of the famous products of this company are Manforce condoms, oral contraceptives Prega News and Unwanted 72, Gas-O-Fast (antacid), Acnestar (skin brand) and multivitamins HealthOK News are among the best-selling consumer health brands in India. Mankind’s IPO was listed in May last year. Since then, the stock has increased by about 74%.
