The central government is taking new measures to tackle fake text messages, fake spam calls and rapidly increasing online fraud. Meanwhile, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has introduced a new rule to protect people from fraud. TRAI implements new traceability rules across the country from today. TRAI has directed Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea (Vi) and BSNL to implement the scheme.
After TRAI’s new traceability rules are implemented, OTP messages received by mobile users will be easily traceable. If we explain it to you in clear language, now if you commit fraud through any OTT, then the telco will be able to find the source of that OTP message. TRAI said this will go a long way in curbing online fraud.
False news will be identified
After implementing OTP tracking rules, mobile users will be able to identify numbers containing spam calls or false information. This new rule from TRAI will come as a huge relief to lakhs of mobile users across the country. With the new rules, all messages sent to mobile devices through telco channels can be easily tracked.
Let us tell you that in TRAI’s new rules, banking messages and promotional telemarketing messages will be kept in separate categories. Businesses can also alert users to suspicious promotions related to fraud so that users can be aware of dangers in advance. TRAI said the purpose of implementing the traceability rules is only to improve the messaging system.
This is what TRAI says about OTP
Let us tell you that the last date for TRAI to implement traceability rules was fixed as October 31, but the date line was extended to November 30 on the request of Jio, Airtel and other telecom companies. It will now be implemented nationwide from December 1, 2024. According to TRAI, there will be no delay in receiving OTP-based messages due to traceability rules. OTP messages will reach users on time as before.
