Suzuki and Toyota jointly issued a statement announcing their first cooperation in the field of battery-powered electric vehicles (BEV). The two companies have signed an agreement under which Suzuki will supply Toyota with its first electric vehicle. While the name of the vehicle has not been announced yet, it will be an electric SUV and will be produced at Suzuki Motor Group’s (SMG) plant in Hansalpur, Gujarat.

In a joint press release issued by the two companies, it is said that Suzuki’s first electric car will be equipped with a 60kWh battery, and the car will be equipped with a four-wheel drive (4WD) system. The electric car will be supplied to Toyota and will be sold in many other countries around the world, including India.

Production of the SUV is scheduled to begin in mid-2025. Let us tell you that Maruti Suzuki will launch its first electric car, Maruti eVX, at the Auto Expo next year. Toyota’s new electric cars will be based on this. As before, the two companies collaborated on a number of models. The car will be jointly produced by Toyota, Suzuki and Daihatsu.

How Toyota’s electric SUV will:

Recent spy shots show that Maruti Suzuki has been testing its upcoming eVX electric SUV in India and abroad. It will be a global SUV and will be designed, developed and manufactured with global considerations in mind. After the launch, Toyota will also launch a new model based on eVX, but its name will be different.

The two companies also confirmed that production of the aforementioned vehicles will begin in the second quarter of next year. While its powertrain is yet to be confirmed, it will come with a 4WD system. Whether it is based on a single motor system or a dual motor system, this information has not yet been disclosed. However, past electric cars launched by Mahindra and Tata have been equipped with front-wheel drive systems. In such a scenario, this electric car from Maruti Toyota will be able to prove its difference.

Agreement between Toyota and Suzuki:

Let us tell you that Suzuki has entered into an international alliance with Toyota in 2016, under which the two Japanese auto giants will share some models with each other. This includes jointly developed cars as well as redesigned models developed by Suzuki. This partnership will jointly help both automakers increase production, especially in developing countries such as India.

Through this cooperation, some models have been introduced into the Indian market. These include the Toyota Glanza based on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the Maruti Suzuki Invicto based on the Toyota Innova Hycross and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Highrider based on the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. The alliance will now expand beyond ICE models to include future electric vehicles from both brands. The strategic partnership between Toyota and Suzuki has been fruitful so far, with both companies benefiting from shared engineering, technology and vehicles.
