TRAI’s new policy

TRAI announced the implementation of new rules in August to prevent cybercrime. The telecom regulator has issued new guidelines to telecom operators to curb fake calls and messages, which will be implemented from October 1, 2024. In addition, news source tracing rules have also come into effect on December 11, 2024. This way, users will be protected from fake telemarketing calls and messages. Such calls and messages will be blocked at the network level itself.

Additionally, message tracking rules have been implemented to track fake messages and telecom operators will be able to easily trace the chain of any message from its original number. Recently, the government has also blocked many international WhatsApp numbers that have been used for financial fraud and digital arrests.
