On Tuesday, over 100 women came to the Gorakhnath temple in Gorakhpur after hearing rumors of the loan waiver scheme. After receiving the news, the police immediately rushed to the scene and took the woman away from the scene after intervention. District Magistrate Krishna Karunesh, meanwhile, confirmed that no such loan waiver scheme was implemented. He warned that strict action would be taken against those spreading such misinformation.

In fact, more than 100 women from various districts including Campierganj, Bhathat, Sant Kabir Nagar and Maharajganj, who had taken loans from microfinance companies through self-help groups (SHGs), came to the temple after hearing rumors of the loan waiver. As the women gathered, police repeatedly announced over loudspeakers that no such loan waiver had been announced.

Some criminals spread misinformation

Police further stated that the information they received was just rumours. Gorakhnath Circle officer Ravi Kumar Singh said some unscrupulous elements were spreading misinformation and creating confusion. The women agreed to go only after we spoke to officials from the finance company.
