Jammu, September 20: Senior Indian National Congress leader and deputy leader of opposition in Parliament Parmod Tiwari on Friday questioned the claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah remained silent on former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik’s shocking revelations about the Pulwama terror attack and corruption allegations.

He was addressing a press conference here. Tiwari said: “The silence of the top BJP leaders clearly shows that there is something fishy going on. Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik, who was appointed by the BJP government, said that intelligence lapses and the central government’s refusal to allow aircraft to ferry security personnel led to the devastating Pulwama terror attack in 2019. Malik also alleged corruption in power projects and insurance schemes in Jammu and Kashmir.”

“The prime minister and the interior minister should address these serious allegations and clarify the issues involved,” he said, adding that Malik’s revelations about national security and integrity were shocking.

“The fact that the Pulwama attack investigation has not concluded after five years shows the government’s incompetence,” Tiwari alleged.

Referring to Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif’s statement on Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress leader said: “The controversial statement made by Pakistan Defence Minister on the eve of the Prime Minister’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir raises concerns. It shows a deeply disturbing level of coordination (between Pakistan and the BJP).”

The Congress leader said the BJP lacked the will to fight terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and that terrorist activities had spread from the Kashmir Valley to Jammu.

“The BJP must be open about what it has done for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Instead, its leaders are spreading lies at public meetings. The region has become a hotbed of drug abuse – the BJP’s most notable achievement,” he accused the BJP. Tiwari said the high turnout was a clear indication of people’s dissatisfaction with the BJP-controlled government.

“While the BJP may criticise the Congress for playing dynastic politics, our legacy is built on sacrifice. Our leaders laid down their lives for the country, but the BJP is different. We have a tradition of sacrifice and it is time the BJP takes responsibility for its actions,” he said.

He accused the BJP of “using the Kashmiri Pandit community as a political tool and exploiting their plight for electoral advantage without offering any real solutions.”

Tiwari accused the BJP of wanting to turn Jammu and Kashmir into a colony to plunder its resources.JMPC senior vice-president and chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, Rajya Sabha press coordinator Dolly Sharma, Onika Mehrotra, Ved Mahajan, Namrata Sharma, Kapil Singh and Gurdarshan Singh also accompanied Tiwari at the press conference.
