On Thursday, the Supreme Court held a hearing on the Places of Worship Act. The Supreme Court has directed the Center to file its reply within four weeks. Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind chairman Maulana Arshad Madani reacted to the court’s ruling. He said this was a major decision that he hoped would curb those who spread communism and unrest in the country.
The hearing on the Places of Worship Act was heard today by a three-judge special bench headed by the Chief Justice of India. The Supreme Court said it would not hold hearing on the matter until the Centre’s reply. New cases should not be filed until the next date. Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has filed a petition in the Supreme Court over Hindu claims against Sambhal and Ajmer Dargah.
Maulana Madani says this is a big decision
In the backdrop of the Sambhal tragedy and Hindu claims against Ajmer Dargah, on the instructions of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind Chairman Maulana Arshad Madani, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has filed a petition against the Protection of Religious Places Act, 1991 Book. Reacting to the Supreme Court verdict, Maulana Arshad Madani said that this is a significant decision and it is hoped that it will curb those who spread communism and unrest in the country.
Senior advocate Raju Ramachandran put forward strong arguments against the petition filed in the Supreme Court to uphold the Protection of Religious Places Act and its effective implementation. Lawyers for Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind also raised arguments in court on a petition challenging the Religious Places Protection Act.
What did the Supreme Court say during the hearing?
The Supreme Court said no new cases should be filed before the next date for the enactment of the Places of Worship Act. However, the Supreme Court said the cases registered earlier will continue to be heard. The lower court would not issue an order before a hearing, the court said. The central government has been asked to submit a reply within four weeks. The next hearing in the case will now be held in eight weeks.
