The question that has been asked the most to superstar Shah Rukh Khan in the last decade is, “When is ‘Don 3’ coming?”. But this year when director Farhan Akhtar announced ‘Don 3’ with Ranveer Singh in the lead, the public seemed a little upset.
Farhan Akhtar made a remake of Amitabh Bachchan starrer iconic film ‘Don’ (1978) in 2006 with Shahrukh in the lead role and also brought its sequel in 2011. The swag with which Shahrukh played the role of Don in ‘Don 2’ is still remembered. And that is why Bollywood fans were a little hurt by Shahrukh’s name not being in ‘Don 3’. But now Farhan has told why he replaced Shahrukh with Ranveer.
Why did a new ‘Don’ come?
In an interview with Faye D’Souza, Farhan told that he started working on ‘Don 3’ keeping Shah Rukh in mind. He said, ‘But I don’t know why we were not able to find the right direction in which we had to take the story. We were not able to find a common point – that’s why this (next part with Shah Rukh) could not happen.’
Hint of the story of ‘Don 3’
Farhan further gave a big hint about the story of ‘Don 3’ and told how Ranveer Singh entered the story. And what is going to be interesting in the story of his film. Farhan said, ‘I felt that let’s go back a bit with what I want to do with the film. Let’s go more in the direction of making a ‘What makes Don a Don?’ type of story. And then I started writing further. Then this story took a different life of its own, which needed to be taken by a young actor. Ranveer (Singh) seemed to be the perfect person to move forward with this idea.’
If you think carefully, you will see that from Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Don’ to Shahrukh starrer ‘Don 2’, the story begins with the fact that the lead character is a mafia don. But his journey of becoming a don, i.e. the origin story of the character is missing.
If we look at it this way, Farhan’s new film ‘Don 3’ will work more like a prequel than a sequel to the previous films. In this, the origin story of the hero of the story will be seen developing. If this happens, then it will definitely be a very interesting story to watch on screen, how the lead character got the aura that has remained intact among the audience for almost 50 years!
Talking about Ranveer Singh, he will now be seen in ‘Singham 3’ releasing on Diwali. While Shahrukh Khan’s next film is with his daughter Suhana Khan. The name of this film being made under the direction of Sujoy Ghosh is ‘King’ and it is going to be an action entertainer.
