Rakesh Roshan opens up about sacking Gulshan Grover
In a candid interview with Siddharth Kannan, Rakesh Roshan shared the reasons why he parted ways with Gulshan Grover during the making of Gulshan Grover. Karan Arjun. The acclaimed filmmaker described Gulshan as a “fantastic actor” but said his chronic tardiness created obstacles on the sets.
“Gulshan Grover is a very good actor. He was my first choice for this film,” said Rakesh. “But he was juggling a lot of movies at the time. For an 11 a.m. coverage, he would show up at 4 p.m. This went on for a few days, and then I told him he couldn’t go on like this. He suggested I do a few close-ups The camera then let him go, but I said, “I can’t make a movie like this. ” So, I told him, “Let’s break up.” “He understood and left the project amicably.”
How Aasif Sheikh brought “What a joke!” to life
After Gulshan Grover left, actor Aasif Sheikh came on board to fill the role. Rakesh recalls mentoring the relatively new actor and how he was encouraged to organically add a now-famous line in the film.
“I explained the character to Asif and told him one line, ‘Just kidding!’ I didn’t include it in the script or prompt him. I let him use it as he felt fit,” Rakesh explain. “He only used the line when he felt it fit, and it worked really well. It worked and the line became memorable.”
