It has been more than a month since the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical Hospital and the protest by doctors demanding justice for the victim. This incident has shaken not only Kolkata but the entire country. In such a situation, junior doctors of medical colleges in Bengal have been protesting outside the Health Department office for the last three nights demanding justice.

These doctors are standing on the streets despite immense pressure. There is pressure on them to return to work but by ignoring these pressures, these doctors have become a symbol of struggle. But they are not alone in this struggle, there are also common people involved in this, who consider this war as their own and are standing shoulder to shoulder with these doctors. One of them is Kinjal Nanda.

Actor turned activist…

Till now people knew Kinjal Nanda only as an actor. But after the Kolkata incident, her image as an activist has emerged. Kinjal Nanda, known for her roles in films like ‘The Bengal Scam’ and ‘Hiralal’, has now become the face of this protest.

He visits many protest sites in Kolkata and gives speeches. He says that we will not allow the flag of any political party to enter our medical colleges. We do not want any party to benefit from our fight. If any political party wants to protest, it can do so outside the medical colleges.

Eating zones have been created at the protest site

Junior doctors have been protesting near the Swasthya Bhavan in Kolkata for three days. At these protest sites, you will find eating zones, where there are facilities like disposable utensils, bio toilets along with folding tables. There are also LED lights, floodlights, fans and mobile charging units. In fact, some organizations have come forward to help the protesting doctors and are making such arrangements so that the doctors do not have to face any basic problems during the protest.

In such a situation, food is prepared in the Salt Lake campus of Jadavpur University, which is delivered to the protest sites. Food is transported with the help of mini trucks. Initially, only doctors were associated with this protest, but now common people have also started supporting it.

Women bringing food, water and ORS solution for junior doctors

You will also see some women at the protest sites who bring boiled eggs and juice etc. for the protesting doctors. These women also bring home cooked food. One such woman is Madhavi Saha. She came to the protest site from North 24 Parganas on Thursday evening with her three neighbors. Madhavi says that we feel that this is our fight. That is why we have brought boiled eggs for these doctors. There is also fruit and ORS for the doctors. They are like our children. They have to win this battle. We will fully support them.
