Third National People’s Congress held in various parts of Kashmir

As per the schedule of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and on the guidance of the Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority, the third NALSA was held on Saturday by the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA) in various districts for amicable settlement of cases of different nature.

The People’s Court trial was held under the insightful guidance of the Acting Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court Tashi Rabstan, who is also the Chief Patron and Executive Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority.

The People’s Court is an alternative dispute resolution mechanism through which disputes and cases pending before the courts or at the pre-litigation stage can be amicably resolved or compromised, thereby alleviating the burden on the regular court system.

The court hears cases including civil, criminal settlement, cheque bounce, banking matters, MACT, land compensation, matrimonial, electricity and pre-litigation matters. In addition, pre-litigation matters including PDD matters, bank recovery matters, PHE cases, social welfare schemes, labour, taxation, matrimonial disputes, land disputes, BSNL cases, municipal cases and other government schemes are also heard.

In Baramulla, The Baramulla District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) held a Lok Adalat meeting chaired by Baramulla DLSA Chairman (Chief District and Sessions Judge) Jawad Ahmad and supervised by DLSA Secretary, Baramulla Deputy Judge Manzoor Hussain.

There are a total of 07 seats in the People’s Court in Baramulla district, of which Baramulla District Court has 02 seats, Sopore TLSC has 02 seats, Pattan TLSC has 1 seat, Uri TLSC has 1 seat and Tangmarg TLSC has 1 seat.

A total of 7163 different cases/matters were taken up, out of which 6748 different cases/matters were settled amicably. A total of Rs. 775,26,113 was obtained in different cases settled during lok adalat.

In Srinagar, The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar, organized the third National LokAdalat Conference for amicable settlement of cases at the District Court Building, Mominabad, Srinagar under the guidance and supervision of Jaffer Hussain Beg, Chairman (District and Sessions Judge), DLSA, Srinagar and monitored by Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary, DLSA, Srinagar.

The third NPA at the Srinagar District Court was inaugurated by Jaffer Hussain Beg (District and Sessions Judge).

In order to facilitate amicable settlement of cases, 09 courts were set up in the above-mentioned State People’s Courts. A total of 72,490 cases were accepted, of which 65,507 cases were amicably settled and a settlement amount of Rs. 72,045,110 was awarded.

The National People’s Tribunal attracted a large number of officials from different departments, litigants, lawyers, law students, etc.

In Ganderbal, The Ganderbal District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) organized the National People’s Court (Lok-Adalat) under the supervision of Abdul Nasir, Chairman (District and Sessions Judge) of Ganderbal District Legal Services Authority and Tabasum, Chief Judicial Magistrate (Secretary of DLSA) of Ganderbal.

To resolve the case amicably, the court set up three divisions, of which the first and second divisions heard the case in the Ganderbal court and the third division heard the case in the Kangan court.

A total of 1046 cases were heard in the three courts, of which 833 cases were successfully concluded and Rs 66,44,085 were awarded as settlement amount.

In Budgam, The National People’s House (Nok Adalat) was set up at the Budgam District Court Complex and Taluka District Court in the district under the supervision of Budgam District Legal Services Authority Chairman (Ld. Pr. District and Sessions Judge) OP Bhagat and supervised by DLSA Budgam Secretary Nusrat Ali Hakak.

The State Lok Sabha was inaugurated by OP Bhagat, Chief District and Sessions Judge (Chairman, District Legal Services Authority), Budgam at the Budgam District Court Building.

Each court has previously determined the cases for Lok Adalat and referred them to five (05) different courts set up by DLSA Budgam for hearing in the State Lok Adalat.

Despite this, a total of 1293 cases were amicably settled, of which 300 were resolved. Moreover, the total amount of settlement was INR 79,42,888.

and delete, The Kupwara District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) with the support of NALSA and JK Legal Services Authority organized the third National Lok Adalat 2024 today in Kupwara district.

The said Lok Adalat was held under the supervision of District Legal Services Authority Chairperson Shazia Tabasum (District and Sessions Judge) Kupwara and under the guidance of DLSA Kupwara Secretary Moneer Ahmad.

Four (04) benches were set up for the said People’s Courts, consisting of the Presiding Judge and members, to settle/compromise the cases amicably.

The trial courts accepted a total of 622 cases, of which 234 were closed on the spot with the intervention of the trial court and the participation of lawyers and parties.

During the trial in the above-mentioned National People’s Court, the victims received a total compensation of INR 84,36,653.

In Bandipora, The National People’s Court trial was held under the supervision of Bandipora District Legal Services Authority Chairman (District Judge-cum-Sessions Judge) Khalil Ahmad Choudhary and under the guidance of Bandipora District Legal Services Authority Secretary Iqbal Ahmad Akhoon.

A total of five (05) benches were constituted for the said People’s Courts, comprising the Presiding Judge and members, to reach an amicable settlement/compromise of the cases referred to them.

A total of 1005 cases were filed in the court, out of which 566 cases were resolved and a total of 50,56,810 pounds were compensated to the aggrieved parties through settlements reached during the hearings in the above-mentioned People’s Court.

In Pulwama, The National People’s Tribunal was set up in the Pulwama district court and other subordinate courts under the chairmanship of Pulwama District Legal Services Authority (District and Sessions Judge) Naseer Ahmad Dar and supervised by Pulwama DLSA Secretary Zahoor Ahmad Ganaie.

The Lok-Adalat at the district headquarters of Pulwama was inaugurated by PDJ Pulwama.

A total of 734 cases were heard by the four courts in the district, of which 348 were resolved in the above-mentioned people’s courts.

The total settlement amount for all cases is Rs 1,20,99,600, including Rs 38,66,000 in 10 MACT cases.

In Shopian, DLSA Chairman (Chief District and Sessions Judge) Shopian, Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhary inaugurated the third NLA at the Shopian District Court today.

For the above mentioned State Lok Sabha, 02 seats were created for DLSA.

A total of 148 cases were taken up, of which 70 were amicably settled in the Lok Sabha today for Rs 12,30,400.

In Anantnag, The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) of Anantnag organized the National Lok Adalat at the District Court Building of Anantnag.

A total of four (04) seats have been established for DLSA at the District Headquarters.

In addition to the court established at the DLSA headquarters, 04 courts have been established in surrounding courts to carry out the work of the National People’s Court at Bijbehara Court Building, Vailoo Court Building, Shangus Court Building

and Dooru Court Building.

A total of 15,539 cases/matters were taken up, of which 14,949 cases/matters were amicably settled. The amount amicably settled in different cases was Rs. 2,23,29,345.
