Yogi government of UP has now decided to take more strictness on ‘Love Jihad’. This type of crime will now be punishable with life imprisonment. The Yogi government presented a bill related to this in the House on Monday. In this bill, the punishment for many crimes was doubled. New crimes have also been included under Love Jihad. In this bill, there is a preparation to bring funding for illegal religious conversion under the ambit of crime under the law. In fact, the Yogi government had made the first law against Love Jihad in 2020, and an ordinance to make it more stringent has been introduced in the House today. It can be passed in the House tomorrow i.e. on 30th July.
Till now there was a provision of 10 years imprisonment
The UP government had earlier passed the Prohibition of Religious Conversion Bill 2021 in the Assembly. There was a provision for punishment ranging from 1 to 10 years in this bill. Under this bill, religious conversion done only for marriage will be invalid. Conversion of religion by lying or cheating will be considered a crime. In case of voluntary religious conversion, the magistrate will have to be informed 2 months in advance. According to the bill, there was a provision for a jail sentence of 1-5 years along with a fine of Rs 15,000 for forced or fraudulent conversion. If this happens to a Dalit girl, there was a provision of 3-10 years of jail sentence along with a fine of Rs 25,000.

Let us tell you that the Central Government has already said that it is a matter for the state governments to make a religious conversion law and it has to be decided by the state governments only.
Let us tell you that many incidents of love jihad have been coming to light in the state. CM Yogi has issued instructions several times to be strict on this matter. He had said that incidents of luring Hindu girls into love by telling lies will not be tolerated. Let us tell you that in the year 2023, a surprising incident came to light in Mohanlalganj, Lucknow.
Here a Hindu family saw that their daughter was offering Namaz. The people of the house were stunned to see this. After strict interrogation of the girl, it was revealed that she had married a Muslim boy. He has also changed his religion. After this, the family members searched the girl’s belongings and found out that a boy named Aman was in contact with her. Many letters written by him were recovered. The girl’s family started pressurizing her to leave the Muslim boy, but she was so brainwashed that she did not agree. One day it came to light that she had run away from home with the boy. Similar incidents had come to light in Lucknow, Bareilly, Bahraich and Western UP areas.
