DIA-CoE IIT Delhi signs MoU with Reliance Industries (ANI)
IIT Delhi on Thursday partnered with DRDO to transfer technology for the world’s lightest bulletproof jacket to three industries. In addition, memorandums of agreement (MOA) for severe cold and hot summer clothing were signed with three industries. In addition, a MOA agreement for raw materials for bulletproof vests was also signed.
In fact, DIA-CoE IIT Delhi signed an MoU with Reliance Industries to develop indigenous polymer ballistic materials. The DRDO Center of Industrial Academic Excellence (DIA-CoE) of IIT Delhi has successfully transferred ABHED technology for lightweight bulletproof jackets to three Indian industrial companies.

The move is part of India’s ongoing efforts to enhance indigenous defense manufacturing capabilities and improve the protection of security personnel. In a bid to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry, IIT Delhi’s DIA-CoE has also signed an MoU with Reliance Industries to develop indigenous polymer ballistic resistant materials.

It is understood that equipping the defense forces with indigenous advanced technologies that rely on domestic research has always been the most important idea of ​​DIA-CoE, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. To achieve this objective, around 50 research projects have been launched in five technology verticals under the close supervision of the country’s premier defense research organization DRDO.

DIA-CoE, led by various faculty members from IIT Delhi and actively coordinating with multiple DRDO laboratories, is developing specific technologies for the ‘soldier in the field’. These include the design and indigenization of high-performance lightweight body armor, high-performance aerostats and airships, smart soldier jackets, terahertz technology, firefighter extreme heat protection jackets and cold climate soldier jackets.
Self-reliance in the field of national defense and security
Nearly 100 faculty members, 200 research scholars and staff of IIT Delhi are working tirelessly to realize the national dream of becoming self-reliant in the field of national defense and security. The agreements were signed at the INAE annual conference held at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, on December 19, 2024, with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh participating in the first meeting. The tripartite agreement was exchanged between DRDO Chairman Dr. Sameer V Kamat and Prof. Rangan Banerjee (Director, IIT Delhi).
The agreement was signed in the presence of Prof. Naresh Bhatnagar Dean (Research and Development), Dr. N Ranjana, Director, FTM, Dr. MH Rahman, Director, DIA-CoE, IIT Delhi and other senior dignitaries of DRDO and IIT Delhi. relative. Naresh Bhatnagar and his team developed the ABHED Bulletproof Jacket, the lightest BPJ of its kind in the world. In addition to this, the center develops many other important technologies.
