The winter parliamentary session, which starts today, is expected to cause huge uproar over a range of issues from waqf to Adani.

The winter session of Parliament begins on Monday. Two states in the country recently held assembly elections. In Maharashtra, the BJP-led NDA alliance achieved a landslide victory, while in Jharkhand, Hemant Soren-led JMM alliance emerged victorious. In this context, PPP MPs will appear in Parliament with renewed enthusiasm. However, the opposition is demanding that Parliament discuss the Adani issue, which is likely to cause an uproar.

Closing of the meeting of all party members

As per tradition, an all-party meeting was organized on Sunday on the eve of the winter session of Parliament. 42 leaders from 30 political parties participated in the meeting chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Opposition parties have asked parliament to discuss US accusations against the Adani group. Meanwhile, Federal Minister Kiren Rijiju clarified that matters raised by both houses will be decided by their empowered committees with the concurrence of their respective speakers. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rigiju told reporters that the government had called on all parties to ensure the smooth functioning of parliament.

Report on waqf bill ready

The waqf amendment bill is also likely to be discussed in the winter session of Parliament. Jagdambikar Pal, chairman of the parliamentary joint committee that is considering the bill, said on Thursday that the report is ready and efforts will be made to build consensus among all members. Meanwhile, opposition MPs on the joint committee asked for the committee’s term to be extended until November 29. Opposition MPs will meet the Lok Sabha Speaker on the matter on November 25.
