Congress President Malikajun Haq
Delhi’s Tis Hazari court has refused to issue directions to register an FIR against Congress president Mallikarjun Haq. The court said that the case did not require investigation under Section 156(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code. However, the court did take up the matter. In April 2023, Haqq used abusive language against the BJP-RSS at an election rally in Karnataka.
Complaints were filed over his remarks. The court stated that there was no need for custodial questioning of the defendant in this case. The evidence was within the complainant’s reach and could be collected without police assistance. The court said the facts of the case did not warrant a detailed and complex investigation by state agencies.
