Jawahar government has tried to show the mirror to Mamta Banerjee, provided she still understands the issue. And this issue is the same because of which Abhishek Banerjee was also said to be upset.

Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Jawahar Sarkar has sent his resignation to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, terming her stand on handling the Kolkata rape-murder case as wrong – It is worth noting that Mamata Banerjee herself tried to persuade Jawahar Sarkar by calling him, but he is said to be firm on his decision to leave TMC. Jawahar Sarkar says that he will go to Delhi on September 11 and submit his resignation to the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

In a conversation with Aaj Tak, Jawahar Sarkar said, I kept watching everything like a disciplined MP for about a month, and remained calm… I think… a lot of mistakes are being made in handling the situation, and now this matter has become very complicated… I also tried to talk to the party leadership, but things did not work out.

Jawahar Sarkar was put on the Delhi front by Mamta Banerjee, and he was also performing his duties with full dedication, but it seems that the Kolkata rape-murder case has shaken him from within. Maybe, this is also a part of his political feeling – but all this is only going to increase problems for Mamta Banerjee.

1. Mamta would not have expected this from Jawahar Government

Mamata Banerjee would not have expected such a thing from bureaucrat turned Rajya Sabha MP Jawahar Sarkar, but from his letter it seems that Mamata Banerjee herself has shattered his hopes. In his letter, Jawahar Sarkar writes that he had hoped that Mamata Banerjee would immediately take some strict action regarding the brutality that happened in RG Kar Hospital.

Jawahar government felt that West Bengal Chief Minister would take action in Kolkata rape-murder case like ‘old Mamata Banerjee’, but firstly no concrete steps were taken, secondly whatever steps were taken were taken very late.

Jawahar Sarkar wrote, ‘I am pained after the horrific incident at RG Kar Hospital… and was expecting your direct intervention with the agitating junior doctor in the old style of Mamata Banerjee… but it did not happen.’

Jawahar Sarkar has also said something which was considered to be the reason for Abhishek Banerjee’s anger. Abhishek Banerjee is Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and is also the general secretary of Trinamool Congress. He was not seen standing with Mamata Banerjee from the very beginning in the Kolkata rape-murder case.

Jawahar Sarkar has written, ‘I cannot accept some things, like corrupt officials or doctors getting top and important positions.’ The same news had come about Abhishek Banerjee that he was upset with the new appointment of the principal of RG Kar Medical College and no action being taken against him.

Jawahar Sarkar has said in his letter that whatever situation is being understood is a reflection of the public anger against the Trinamool Congress government’s ‘uncontrolled domineering attitude of some favorite people and corrupt people’.

It was believed that senior officials of Mamata Banerjee’s team, including some doctors, misled the Chief Minister to save Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of the medical college – the question is, why did Mamata Banerjee not try to understand the facts herself?

2. The Governor has also written to Mamata

West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose has also written a letter to Mamata Banerjee in a very strict tone. However, the Governor has already met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and President Draupadi Murmu and submitted his report on the Kolkata incident.

Regarding the Kolkata rape-murder case and corruption case, Governor CV Anand Bose has directed the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government to call an emergency cabinet meeting.

The Governor says that Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal should be sacked. The Governor has written to the state government, the government cannot escape its responsibilities… ostrich-like attitude will not work… the state should work under the rule of the Constitution and law.

3. Who is Jawahar Sarkar

Jawahar Sarkar is a 1975 batch IAS officer, and he has held many important positions in the central government. In 2012, Jawahar Sarkar was made the CEO of Prasar Bharati in the UPA government, but Jawahar Sarkar resigned in 2021 even before the completion of his tenure.

In August 2021, Mamata Banerjee sent Jawahar Sarkar to the Rajya Sabha, and since then he has been performing his duty of continuously attacking the central government – but now his target has changed with immediate effect.

And once again, even before the completion of the Rajya Sabha term, the Jawahar government has decided to resign.

4. Is Jawahar government’s move political?

This matter can be understood only from the words of Jawahar Sarkar. He says, ‘I am adamant on my principles… I am resigning as a Rajya Sabha MP, but this does not mean that I am giving up my principles.’

Jawahar Sarkar has also tried to remind Mamata Banerjee that he has been constantly accusing the central government of economic policies, especially of benefiting the capitalists, but he cannot tolerate the way the Kolkata incident was handled as well as corruption. He says, ‘The disease of corruption has gripped Bengal… and Bengal is not in a position to accept it.’

Jawahar Sarkar is also trying to say that he thought that like before, Mamata Banerjee would take action and talk directly to the protesting junior doctors, but that did not happen.

Jawahar Sarkar believes that if the state government had broken the nexus of corrupt doctors and taken action against the responsible officers, normalcy would have been restored in West Bengal long ago.

If you look at it, Jawahar Sarkar has also attacked Mamta Banerjee in the dock in the same style as her political opponents, but this style is closer to BJP, or we will have to wait a little for Congress.

5. Mamata Banerjee is in serious trouble. But…

Even before Jawahar Sarkar, many TMC leaders have raised their voices regarding the Kolkata rape-murder case. Abhishek Banerjee would be considered the first such leader, but he did not come forward like Sukhendu Shekhar Roy, Shantanu Sen or Jawahar Sarkar. Nor has anyone left the party like Jawahar Sarkar. Sukhendu Shekhar Roy even received a police notice for criticizing the government, for which he had to go to the High Court.

If we look at the case of rape and murder of the trainee doctor, Jawahar Sarkar is the third leader to leave Mamata Banerjee. Earlier also many leaders have left Mamata Banerjee, but every time she has emerged stronger. Shubhendu Adhikari and Mukul Roy are witnesses as well as examples.
