Earlier this month, a broad daylight robbery took place in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. In this incident, a ‘woman’ robbed a bag containing 26 kilograms of silver worth around Rs 23.5 lakh from outside a jewelery shop in Krishna Nagar and escaped. The incident was captured on video by nearby CCTV. News of the arrest of a woman with a scarf tied to her face sparked widespread discussion.
18 kilograms of silver were recovered from 26 kilograms of silver
At present, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch has arrested two defendants in the case and recovered 18 kilograms of silver worth 1.776 million rupees. But another major revelation in the case has come to light. In fact, the police have arrested the absconding accused Nitin Tamaich, Rakesh Bengali and Divyang Rathod. All three defendants are men, none of whom are women. But on CCTV a woman can be seen carrying out the robbery. Under such circumstances, after the investigation was completed, the shocking reality was placed in front of the Crime Branch.
“The robber is a man, not a woman”
The police said that it was not a woman but a man who took away the 26 kilograms of silver bag and ran away. To mislead the police, one of the three accused, Rakesh Bengali, disguised himself as a woman and carried out the robbery.
26kg silver bag was robbed
ACP Bharat Patel of Ahmedabad Crime Branch said that two employees of Rishabh Ornaments in Manekchowk had gone to Lalbhai Jewelers in Krishnanagar to deliver goods. The two left in a two-wheeler carrying silver jewellery. An employee named Bharat Prajapati stood outside Lalbhai Jewelers holding a two-wheeler before another employee went to the store to deliver a bag of silver. Carrying a 26 kilogram bag of silver, Wheeler pulled a bag from nearby and ran away. Nitin then came nearby on a motorcycle and Rakesh escaped on the back of the motorcycle.
The case was registered at Krishna Nagar police station. Considering the seriousness of the case, the Criminal Investigation Brigade has been involved in the investigation. Among the items seized, the pair found 26 kilograms of silver, including 18 kilograms. There are 333 anklets among them. The two accused arrested by the crime branch and the silverware recovered will now be handed over to Krishna Nagar police.
The store was searched for three days
ACP Bharat Patel of the Ahmedabad crime branch said he had analyzed many previous cases but this was the first case where a man disguised himself as a woman to commit robbery or any crime to mislead the police. Accused Nitin conducted a reconnaissance at Lalbhai Jewelers for three days to know who was coming and who was leaving. After snatching away the money bag, he hid the money and kept it in Kuber Nagar. The accused’s plan was to make money by selling the silver anklets to some jewelers.
Let us tell you that among the accused, four cases have been registered against Nitin. Four cases have also been registered against Rakesh Bengali, who impersonated women to commit robberies. Cases have also been registered against absconding Divyang Rathore at five different police stations.
