Wanindu Hasaranga SL vs NZ Series: New Zealand are currently on a tour of Sri Lanka after suffering a disastrous defeat against India in three Test matches. The first T20 international series has ended and now it is the turn of ODI matches. In the two-game series, both teams won one game each and the series ended in a draw. Now ahead of the ODI series, the Sri Lankan cricket team has suffered a big blow. Former team captain Wanindu Hasalanga exited the series. It is claimed that he injured his left hamstring while playing in the second T20 match on Sunday. It initially looked like he would recover quickly, but later it was revealed that he would no longer be able to compete. So now he will miss the entire ODI series.
When Wanindu Hasaranga was playing the final match of the T20 series before the ODI series, he limped between the wickets trying to run. Meanwhile, sources claim that the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has made a hasty decision to include Dushan Hemantha in the squad in place of Wanindu Hasaranga. Dushana Hemantha is a leg-spinner who can also bat if required. Wanindu Hasalanga also possesses the same strength. This means Sri Lanka has announced an almost similar replacement.
Dushana Hemantha will get a chance to play in ODI series
Dushank Hemantha is also a good bowler and has played five ODI matches so far, but Hasaranga’s absence will definitely hurt Sri Lanka. In the recently concluded T20 series against New Zealand, Hasaranga took a total of 6 wickets. He took two wickets in the first game and four wickets in the second. He is the bowler who has taken the most wickets in the series. Additionally, he scores runs with the bat very well. Now, it will be interesting to see how Sri Lanka overcome this shortcoming.
Earlier, the New Zealand team also suffered a big blow when their fast bowler Lockie Ferguson was eliminated from the ODI series. He was also injured and missed the entire series. Rocky Ferguson also recently scored a hat-trick against Sri Lanka but will now be ruled out for future matches. The first match of the three-match ODI series will be played on Wednesday. This series is very important for both teams to prepare for the championship trophy. It is expected to be broadcast next February.
