The Indian cricket team is currently busy participating in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on the Australian tour. The Indian team is busy preparing for the third Test match against Australia. Players of the Indian team who are not part of the series are constantly trying their hand at domestic cricket. There is one player who has been away from the Indian team for almost three years but is still continuing to play in domestic cricket. Now the player is suddenly named captain of the team. This player is Mayank Agarwal who has been away from the Indian team for a long time.
Mayank Agarwal played his last Test match for Team India in March 2022. Since then, he has been trying to make a comeback in the Indian team. Meanwhile, Mayank Agarwal has been appointed as the captain of his home team. Mayank Agarwal was named captain of Karnataka on December 12 for the Vijay Hazare Trophy ODI cricket tournament to be held in Ahmedabad from December 21 to January 5, 2025. Shreyas Gopal has been appointed as the vice-captain. Mayank could not do anything special with the bat in the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In 7 games for Karnataka, he scored 179 runs with just 1 half-century. During this period he averaged 25.57 points per game and had a strike rate of over 150.
Saeed Mushtaq’s team fails
Karnataka, led by Mayank Agarwal, failed to reach the knockout rounds of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Karnataka will begin their campaign against Mumbai on December 21 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Apart from Karnataka and Mumbai, Puducherry, Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh, Saurashtra, Hyderabad and Nagaland are placed in Group C.
