At the same time, in 2014, Japan awarded the former Prime Minister the “Order of the Paulownia Flower”.

However, this is not the first time there has been a demand to give Bharatnana to the former prime minister. Earlier last year, Jharkhand Congress Sevadar state vice-president Ajay Kumar had also requested the central government to hand over Bharat Ratna to Manmohan Singh.
