The Supreme Court also upheld the order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the matter. The notification issued by the Punjab government on August 20 was quashed by the High Court. The Punjab government has challenged the decision in the Supreme Court. While expanding the admission quota for NRIs, the Punjab government has also considered close relatives of NRIs to be eligible. The Supreme Court dismissed the state government’s notification and expressed strong displeasure.

This notification by the state government will have fatal consequences. Those general candidates whose scores are three times more than those of NRI quota students will be excluded from the list of general students.
