The Supreme Court quashed the state government’s notification to expand the scope of admission quota for NRIs. At the same time, the Punjab government’s arbitrary change in the definition of NRI has also been severely punished by the Supreme Court. The court expressed displeasure over the Punjab government’s notification, saying it was a fraud on other candidates and contestants. This fraud must end.

The Supreme Court also upheld the order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the matter. The notification issued by the Punjab government on August 20 was quashed by the High Court. The Punjab government has challenged the decision in the Supreme Court. While expanding the admission quota for NRIs, the Punjab government has also considered close relatives of NRIs to be eligible. The Supreme Court dismissed the state government’s notification and expressed strong displeasure.

Supreme Court says NRI quota is a fraud…This fraud should stop now. The CJI said we have to end the fraud and the High Court order is absolutely right. This notification by the state government will have fatal consequences. Those general candidates whose scores are three times more than those of NRI quota students will be excluded from the list of general students. The Supreme Court recommended the central government to implement this provision.

The Supreme Court said that certain legal principles should be followed and we will determine the legal principles. The Supreme Court dismissed a petition challenging the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s order quashing the notification extending the definition of admission quota for NRIs.
