Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that within 2 years the price of electric vehicles (EVs) will be equal to petrol and diesel vehicles. Gadkari also said that he has no problem with the Finance Minister giving subsidy on EVs.

Earlier, he had suggested that EV manufacturers no longer need to provide subsidies as the cost of production has come down and consumers are now choosing electric vehicles (EVs) or CNG vehicles on their own.

Told how the price of EV will be reduced

He said, ‘I am not against any incentive. The responsibility of this lies with the Minister of Heavy Industries. If they want to give more incentives on electric vehicles, I have no problem. Gadkari said that I believe that the production numbers are also increasing, without subsidy you can maintain that cost because the cost of production is low.

He said that electric vehicles are easily available and I believe that within two years the price of electric vehicles will also become like the price of petrol vehicles and diesel vehicles. Therefore, they do not need subsidy because there is already saving on electric vehicles as fuel.

I have no problem with subsidies

He further said, ‘But still if the Finance Minister and the Heavy Industry Minister want to give subsidy and you are going to be beneficial for it. I have no problem, I will not oppose it.’ Let us tell you that last year the market share of electric vehicles in India was 6.3%, which is 50% more than the previous year.
