‘We were horrified and crying. There was a violent mob around us that wanted to destroy everything. Till some time ago, the people (policemen) who were standing outside the hospital to help us were now expecting protection from us. It was a terrible experience. It is possible that some female employees may have been misbehaved again tomorrow. This is the pain of a nurse of the same RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata where the mob vandalized on Wednesday night. About a week ago, an incident of rape and murder of a doctor took place in the same hospital.
To understand the story, let’s go back a little…
On the intervening night of 8-9, a doctor is raped and murdered in RGK hospital. Demonstrations have been taking place across the country regarding this for the last several days. Doctors are also part of this demonstration. Meanwhile, many left organizations announced that they would demonstrate in large numbers outside the hospitals on Wednesday night. A crowd started gathering outside RG Kar Hospital also after 10 pm. At 11.20 the crowd broke the barricade and entered inside.

One thing was surprising in what happened on Wednesday. Actually, on one side of the barricade there were people who were appealing to the people shouting slogans on the other side to remain calm. There were also students of RG Kar Hospital and some helpless policemen also. But on the other side, there was a crowd that wanted to break the barricade and enter inside the hospital. It can be seen in many viral videos that some people were continuously shaking the barricade.

Suddenly the crowd went out of control. Many of those who were holding placards demanding ‘justice’ now had sticks in their hands. He was inside the hospital. Seeing this violent form of the crowd, a few policemen also ran inside to save their lives where there were many hospital employees. There were women also among them.
Then what was left. Whatever the crowd saw they broke everything. He also reached the place where the heinous act had happened with the doctor. Every corner of the hospital was vandalized. What did the nurse tell…
In a special conversation with Aaj Tak, a nurse present in the hospital that night expressed her pain. He said, ‘They wanted to demolish that seminar room (where the doctor was raped and murdered), this was their main goal. They tried to enter the third floor but could not. They destroyed the second floor. There were not many policemen even inside the emergency ward. The policemen were asking for our help. They were saying to hide us somewhere in their ward. We were so scared that all our junior and senior nurses were crying. Another case of abuse may have happened yesterday. We all went out of the premises crying. It was a terrifying experience for us.

Was there a conspiracy?
Kolkata Police says that some unknown miscreants vandalized the RG Kar Medical College. A group of about 40 people were among the protesters. These same people carried out violence in the hospital.
Questions are being raised that the motive behind the violence that took place in the hospital on Wednesday was to destroy evidence. The protesters had broken all the CCTVs of the hospital. However, investigation into the matter is ongoing. But whatever happened raises many serious questions.
