Pakistan Cricket Team: Jason Gillespie has turned down an offer to become Pakistan’s all-match coach. Following this, the Pakistan Cricket Board handed over the interim coaching duties in limited rotation to national selector Ajib Javed. Now the PCB has appointed Shahid Aslam as the batting coach of the national team after the Australia tour. Aslam has previously worked with the Pakistan team for many years as an assistant coach, fielding coach and assistant manager. He has been working as a coach at the High Performance Center in Lahore for the past two years.
Got this position on the recommendation of Aaqib Javed
Before Shahid Aslam, former Test captain Mohammad Yousuf was the batting coach of the national team but he was later appointed as the national team selector. However, Yusuf later resigned as a selector and batting coach and started working at the High Performance Centre. Yusuf also recently resigned from the High Performance Centre, but the PCB rejected his resignation. Now, Aslam has been appointed as batting coach on the recommendation of Aqib Javed, interim coach of the limited-overs team.
Didn’t even play a single international match for Pakistan
Shahid Aslam, 55, has not played a single international match for Pakistan. He took 34 wickets in 17 first-class matches in Pakistan’s domestic cricket. He took 12 wickets in 16 Group A games. Apart from this, he scored a total of 367 runs in his first-class career, including three half-centuries.
Pakistan still have to play three ODI series and three T20 matches against Zimbabwe. The captain of the ODI series is Mohammad Rizwan. The captaincy of the team for the T20 series has been handed over to Salman Ali Agha. Pakistan recently defeated Australia in the ODI series but suffered a defeat in the T20 series.
