After the fall of Hasina’s government, such cases have been coming to light in Bangladesh and making headlines in the country. Now a professor at Dhaka University has made such anti-India remarks. Listening to this, it seems that Bangladesh is heading in the direction of being hostile to India and friendly with Pakistan. At a seminar at Dhaka University, Professor Shahiduzzaman talked about Bangladesh’s nuclear weapons and described India as a huge threat. He said, “We have to sign a nuclear treaty with Pakistan. Pakistan is the most reliable and trustworthy security ally of Bangladesh. This is what the Indians don’t want us to believe.”

In his remarks against India, Shahiduzzaman, a professor at Dhaka University, said, “To change India’s habitual perception, the right answer is that we have nuclear capability and make Bangladesh denuclearized. Having nuclear capability does not mean “we should become a nuclear power.” By having nuclear capability, I mean we should sign a nuclear treaty with our former rival Pakistan.”

He said that without technical assistance from Pakistan, India cannot be stopped. Professor Shahiduzzaman said, “Pakistan has always been the most reliable security partner of Bangladesh and Bangladesh should lean towards Pakistan.”

“To save us from India…”

Professor Shahiduzzaman further said, “Pakistan has a jealous heart. They don’t want us to apologize, but they don’t want us to stay in India either. They are ready to save us from India at any cost.”

Professor Shahiduzzaman also spoke about acquiring nuclear missiles from Pakistan and deploying them on the Indian border. He said that Pakistan’s deployment of Ghauri short-range missiles in North Bengal and Chittagong Hill Tracts would have a deterrent effect on India.

He claimed that India wanted to occupy parts of Bangladesh and make it part of the northeastern country and to prevent this, a nuclear treaty and help in acquiring Pakistani missiles were needed.

Let us tell you that Professor Shahiduzzaman made this statement during his address to the officers at a seminar organized by retired officers. In his speech, he described Pakistan as a “trustworthy and reliable security partner of Bangladesh” while describing India as a “major threat”.

What does the head of the provisional government want?

Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chairman of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, recently spoke about maintaining friendly relations with neighboring countries. He had said, “Bangladesh wants to maintain good relations with India and other neighboring countries. This should be based on ‘fairness and equality’.”

Yunus said in his speech that after he was sworn in as the head of the interim government, many foreign leaders including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif called to congratulate him. He said, “We hope to establish good relations with India and other neighboring countries, but these relations should be based on fairness and equality.”
