Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues statement on Syria and Bangladesh

We reiterate our expectation that relevant ongoing legal proceedings in Bangladesh will be conducted in a fair, impartial and transparent manner, ensuring full respect for the legal authority of the individuals concerned. Regarding Syria, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that we are concerned about the recent intensification of fighting in northern Syria. We are paying close attention to developments. There are approximately 90,000 Indian citizens in Syria, 14 of whom are working in various United Nations organizations. Our mission remains close to our citizens to ensure their safety.
Bangladesh bans Sheikh Hasina’s speech

Meanwhile, a special court banned the publication of a speech by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Sheikh Hasina was ousted after massive protests in the country in August. After resigning as Prime Minister, he sought refuge in India. The decision came a day after Hasina made her first public speech in support of her Awami League party in New York in a virtual speech.
