Recently, a train in Gazipur, Uttar Pradesh, allegedly attempted to derail. Currently, the police have arrested an accused in the case. During the interrogation, it was found that the accused was a drug addict who left a piece of wood on the track after being drunk. His intention was not to derail the train.

In fact, on the evening of September 16, an express train was stopped for about two hours between the city railway station and Gazipurghat station. After the incident, the police have registered a case and launched an investigation. At present, one accused has been arrested.

In this case, CO city Sudhakar Pandey said that the accused is a drug addict. A piece of wood was placed on the track by him. The piece of wood got stuck in the engine of train No. 12561, causing the engine pipe to burst. Due to a technical fault, the train was stuck on the track for about two hours. A Kotwali case was registered in this regard.

He told reporters that after the incident on September 16, SP city Gyanendra Kumar, CO Sudhakar Pandey, Kotwali in-charge Deendayal Pandey and RPF in-charge Amit Rai checked the railway track at night. Meanwhile, the RPF team continuously monitored the railway track. Meanwhile, on September 18, when the police and the entire team reached near a bridge while monitoring the track, they heard noise from someone in the bushes.

Later, the police went to check and found a middle-aged man holding a piece of wood walking from the bridge towards the railway track. In this case, the RPF surrounded him and took him to the police station for questioning, where he revealed his name as Ashish Gupta, a resident of Suhawal.

According to Ashish Gupta, his wife and children left him four years ago. Due to this, he was always worried and could not sleep all night. Ashish was addicted to smacking his lips and would wander around all night. Sometimes people mistook him for a thief and chased him away; to avoid this and get drunk, he hid under a railway bridge.

According to the accused, “I used to hang out till late at night and come and lie down under this bridge. That’s where I smoked cigarettes and marijuana. As for taking a stick or a piece of wood, he told me that there was a pile of wood nearby and I would pick one when I came over so that if any dog or wild animal came, I could drive it away. Also on September 16, he picked up a piece of wood, but because he was drunk, he left it on the railway line and forgot to remove it.

Police said that after searching Ashish, a pipe and Rs 140 were found from him. He has been arrested and jailed. After the incident, vigilance has increased on the track.
