Cricket’s top body, the International Cricket Council (ICC), released its latest rankings on December 11. England’s Harry Brooke has emerged as the number one batsman in the latest Test batsman rankings, ending the reign of his senior partner Joe Root. However, Brooke, 25, scored his eighth career century against New Zealand in Wellington last week, just one point ahead of his senior team-mates. Brooke’s rating totaled 898 points. If we take a look at the latest ICC Test rankings, there has been a huge change in the top ten this time.
Travis Head jumped six places into the top ten after scoring an innings of 140 against India in the Adelaide Test. Hyde has now reached fifth place in the rankings of Test batsmen. Travis Head has moved up the rankings significantly, while fellow countryman Steve Smith has suffered a huge loss. Steve Smith has dropped 3 places and is now out of the top 10 list of Test batsmen. Steve had to suffer this loss due to poor form.
Smith suffered huge losses
India and Australia have played 2 matches so far in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. India won the first Test match and Australia won the second Test match. However, Smith’s bat remained clinical in both games. That’s why Smith was left out of the top ten. You will be surprised to know that this is the first time in the last seven years that Smith’s name does not appear in the rankings of the top 10 Test batsmen. This means that Smith has fallen out of the top ten list for the first time since 2015. Currently, Smith ranks 11th with 708 points.
