Russian President Vladimir Putin is likely to visit India soon. India also formally invited him to visit China. This will be President Putin’s first visit to India after conflicts with Russia and Ukraine in February 2022.
Yuri Ushakov, a Kremlin aide in President Putin’s office, said at a press conference on Monday that President Putin has received an invitation to visit from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that the date of his proposed visit will be decided in early 2025.
Telephone conversation once every 2 months
“There is an agreement between our leaders to hold a meeting every year. That being the case, it is our turn this time,” the diplomat said. “We have received an invitation from Prime Minister Modi and we will definitely consider it positively,” he said. ”
Regarding the date of Putin’s visit, Yuri Ushakov said, “We will determine the possible date early next year.” Prime Minister Modi and President Putin maintain regular contact and speak on the phone every two months.
In addition to this, the top leaders of the two countries often meet privately, especially during international projects. In July this year, Prime Minister Modi paid a two-day visit to the capital Moscow to attend the 22nd Russia-India Leaders’ Meeting. Since then, Prime Minister Modi also visited the Russian city of Kazan in October to attend the BRICS Summit.
Earlier last month, Russia also revealed information about President Putin’s visit to India. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced the news on November 19 and said a date for the visit was being discussed.
Meet twice in 5 months
He once said, “President Putin will visit India soon. We are determining the date.” If the visit date is confirmed, it will be Putin’s first visit to India in three years. Previously, President Putin last visited India on December 6, 2021. During his visit, he attended the 21st India-Russia Annual Summit in New Delhi and held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi.
However, meetings have been ongoing between the two top leaders. In the past five months of this year, Prime Minister Modi has met with President Putin twice. During the 16th BRICS leaders’ meeting in Kazan in October, Prime Minister Modi formally invited Putin to visit India.
