Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav said that the Ken-Betwa and Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal connectivity project is the result of the tireless efforts of the government. Over the past 20 years, people have been working hard on these ambitious national projects. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approval of these projects is a huge blessing for the country. He himself will lay the foundation stone. These projects will change the face and destiny of Bundelkhand and Malwa districts. This will bring about huge changes in the socio-economic sphere. Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Ken-Betwa link project in Chhattalpur Khajuraho on December 25, as well as Parvati-Kali Shindhu, Jaipur (Rajasthan) -The foundation stone of the Chambal Link Project was laid.
Chief Minister Dr Yadav reviewed the preparedness of the scheme through video conferencing from Samatva Bhawan (Official Residence of the Chief Minister). The meeting was attended by Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silavat, Water Resources Principal Secretary Dr. Rajesh Rajoura and all relevant officials. Divisional commissioners and collectors associated with the project participated in the meeting through video conferencing.
Madhya Pradesh has huge amounts of water
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that Madhya Pradesh has the largest number of rivers in the country and the volume of water is also huge. We must exploit it as much as possible for the benefit of farmers. He said Madhya Pradesh’s participation in two major national projects was a major achievement. Chief Minister Dr Yadav said everyone should understand the importance of water and the information on its proper use. Farmers’ meetings should be held in every village, Kalash pilgrimages should be held, morning markets should be held, bhajan groups and folk artists should give lectures, and schools and colleges should hold painting, essay and debate competitions. The plan should involve public representatives, self-help groups and social service organizations.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that with the implementation of the National River Connectivity Project, work on connecting rivers in the state will also continue. In Ujjain, a 20-km-long pipeline is being constructed to connect the Kanh river to the Gambhir river. The Sewarkhedi-Silarkhedi project is also being launched. We will continue to realize national prosperity from a water perspective. We are determined to provide every farm with adequate irrigation water.
More than 4 million people have access to water
Water Resources Minister Silavat said the modified Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal link project will irrigate 6,01,30,520 hectares of land in Malwa and Chambal districts of the state and will provide drinking water to 40 million people. Apart from this, farmers covering 3,06,200 hectares of land in 1,205 villages in Bhind, Morena and Sheopur districts will be able to access water thanks to modernization of the nearly 60-year-old Chambal Right Main Canal and distribution system. The project will make the state’s Guna, Morena, Shivpuri, Bhind, Sheopur, Ujjain, Seho Sehore, Mandsaur, Indore, Dewas, Agar 3,217 villages in Malwa, Shajapur and Rajgarh districts have benefited.
A 221-kilometer-long canal will be built
Under the Ken-Betwa link project, by constructing a dam at Daudhan village, water from the Ken river will be discharged into the Betwa river through a 221-km-long link canal to provide irrigation facilities on both sides of the route. The project will provide irrigation facilities to a total area of ​​801,100 hectares in the state. This will benefit around 2,013 villages in Chhatarpur, Panna, Damoh, Tikamgarh, Shivpuri, Niwari, Datia Raisen, Vidisha and Sagar districts. Through the project, the state’s 4.4 million people will receive drinking water facilities and 103 MW of hydropower and 27 MW of solar power will also be generated.
Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Rajoura said that the public awareness campaign for the project will continue till December 25. During the event, Kalash-Yatra and Prabhat Pheris, farmer meetings, street performances, bhajans and cultural activities explaining the importance of water will be held in the villages. Educational institutions will also organize various competitions related to water conservation and awareness. The foundation laying ceremony of these projects will also be televised live in all Gram Panchayat.
