Amid the ongoing violence and security challenges in Manipur, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police and other security agencies are continuing intelligence-based joint operations. The operations in the mountain and valley areas are aimed at restoring peace in the state and controlling extremist activities. A number of important recent operations have resulted in the seizure of large quantities of weapons and war materiel.
On October 15, a joint team of the Indian Army and Manipur Police launched a large-scale search and rescue operation in Lerongthel Pitra, a border area in Tubal District, Manipur. The operation was launched on the basis of intelligence inputs as the area has long been considered sensitive for militant activity.
During the operation, the team seized an AK-56 rifle, an automatic rifle, a carbine machine gun, a single-barreled rifle, a pistol, several grenades and a large amount of ammunition and other ammunition. The success of the operation dealt a major blow to the capabilities of militants in the region.
Subsequently, on October 16, the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police conducted another joint operation. The operation was carried out based on intelligence information near Kanan Veng village in Churachandpur district. The area has also become a center of extremist activity in recent times. During the operation, security forces seized one .303 rifle, five single-barreled rifles, one 9mm pistol, ammunition and other war materiel. The operation succeeded in weakening the activities of militant networks in the region.
The Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police and other agencies came together for the operation. These efforts of these agencies play an important role in maintaining law and order in sensitive areas of Manipur. No major incidents of violence or conflict occurred during these operations. All the seized arms and ammunition have been handed over to the Manipur police who will conduct further investigation and take legal action.
