Hair dryer explodes and woman’s fingers are blown off
It is understood that after the incident, the woman was sent to a local hospital for treatment. The incident occurred on November 15 and relevant information came to light on Wednesday. Police sources said the injured woman has been identified as 37-year-old Basavarajeshwari Yarnal, wife of former Army personnel Papanna Yarnal, who died in Jammu and Kashmir in 2017. According to investigating officials, the explosion was caused by an electrical short circuit. To use appliances such as hairdryers, a 2W power connection is required. The switch the hair dryer was plugged into didn’t have that much capacity, hence the accident.
The police told the whole story
According to the information received by the police, a courier package was booked in the name of Basavarajeshwari’s neighbor Sasikala. When the courier called Sasikala to pick up the package, she told him she was out of town and asked her to deliver the package to her neighbor, Basavarajeshwari. Thereafter, Sasikala called Basavarajeshwari and asked her to collect the parcel. Later, Basavarajeshwar went to the courier company to collect the package. When Sasikala asked her to open the package, Basavarajeshwari opened the package and found a hair dryer inside. When Basavarajeshwari plugged the hairdryer into the electrical outlet and turned it on, it exploded in her hands.
Neighbor refuses express delivery
Hearing the blast, some neighbors came running and found Basavarajeshwari suffering cuts on his palms and fingers. He was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital. Although Sasikala claimed that she had not ordered any product online, Bagalkot Superintendent of Police Amarnath Reddy said she might have said so out of fear after the incident. A case has been registered at the Ilkal police station and investigations are underway into who ordered the device and from where it was sent, the SP said. A hair dryer manufacturing company based in Visakhapatnam has been identified. Further investigation is ongoing
