Bahubali brothers Sonu Singh-Monu Singh have suffered a major setback in the Dhanpatganj block pramukh by-election in Sultanpur. BJP candidate Parvati Saroj has won this election. SP candidate and Sonu-Monu’s mother Usha Singh has been defeated. She got 39 votes out of 81 while BJP candidate Parvati Saroj got 41 votes. Dhanpatganj block was dominated by the Bahubali brothers’ family or their relatives since 1984. But now BJP has captured this seat.

Let us tell you that the by-election for the post of Pramukh of the famous Dhanpatganj block of Sultanpur district was completed yesterday (22 August). The Sonu-Monu family or their relatives have had dominance over the post of Block Pramukh since independence, but they have faced defeat there.

BJP candidate Parvati Saroj

After independence till 1984, SP leader and former MLA Isauli Chandrabhadra Singh (Sonu) and former block pramukh Yashbhadra Singh (Monu)’s Baba Sharda Singh were the block pramukhs. This is where the political journey of the ‘Bhadra family’ started. The seat which was till now in the possession of the Bhadra family has now been snatched by BJP’s Parvati Saroj. Out of 81, 42 area panchayat members voted in favour of Parvati Saroj while SP candidate Usha Singh had to be satisfied with just 39 votes. Parvati Saroj has given the credit of her victory to BJP MLA and former minister Vinod Singh from the city seat.

Actually, former block pramukh Yashbhadra Singh alias Monu was sentenced to two years in a case by the MP MLA court of Sultanpur. After which he had to leave this seat. In such a situation, the election for the post of pramukh of Dhanpatganj block was held. In which Samajwadi Party declared his mother Usha Singh as its candidate, while BJP expressed confidence in Parvati Saroj.

Sonu-Monu and their mother

However, Parvati Saroj kept the trust of BJP intact and achieved a big success by winning the main seat of Dhanpatganj and broke the political fort of Bhadra family. Regarding this, BJP MLA from city seat Vinod Singh said that Sonu-Monu had established political dominance on the basis of crime. A Dalit woman defeated them and worked to end their dominance.

Know the history

After independence till 1984, Yashbhadra Singh (Monu)’s grandfather Sharda Prasad Singh was the block pramukh in Dhanpatganj. In 1984, Monu’s father Indrabhadra Singh took over the block pramukhship. After being elected MLA from Isauli in 1989, he got his close aide Aadya Prasad Singh appointed as the block pramukh. After this, Indrabhadra Singh’s close aide Shyam Sundar Singh became the block pramukh. In 1999, Indrabhadra Singh’s wife Usha Singh was elected as the block pramukh.

Sonu and Monu entered politics after the assassination of Indrabhadra Singh in 1999. Sonu was elected MLA in the 2002 elections and Monu took over the post of Block Pramukh in 2005. He remained Pramukh for 10 consecutive years. When the seat was reserved for Scheduled Castes in 2015, Monu’s supporter Janaki Devi was elected as the Block Pramukh.
