Amid the fervor of the ongoing election season, the Jammu District Assembly constituency (AC) witnessed for the first time a check of the daily expenditure registers of candidates contesting the elections by expenditure observers Amaresh Kumar Tiwari, BK Vishnu Priya and Gayatri M and expenditure monitoring officer Yasir Sharief.

All assistant expenditure observers also participated in the inspection. Out of 109 candidates in 11 constituencies (ACs), only 61 candidates or their election agents participated in the first inspection.

The concerned Returning Officers had informed them about the absence of the candidates through notifications.

During the inspection, it was found that there were discrepancies between the daily expense registers and the shadow observation registers of 19 candidates.

The relevant Returning Officers communicate this information to the candidates through circulars. Candidates are required to keep accurate and detailed records of their campaign expenditures to maintain the integrity of the democratic process.

Expenditure watchers Amaresh Kumar Tiwari, BK Vishnu Priya and Gayatri M. also expressed the same view and stressed that a strong monitoring mechanism plays a key role in maintaining the fairness and credibility of elections.

“Our primary goal is to ensure that election spending is transparent and in compliance with established guidelines,” they commented.

The irregularities found have been communicated to the candidates to call on them to take action to correct the irregularities and strictly comply with the election expenditure regulations. Back to Press Releases List
