Filmmaker Devashish Makhija has expressed his pain. Devashish, who has directed excellent movies like Ajji, Bhonsle and Zoram, told how difficult it has been for him to maintain himself in the film industry. It took 14 years for his first feature film to be released. He has been living in Mumbai for the last 2 decades, but has not been able to secure himself financially yet.

director’s pain

In an interview given to Long Live Cinema, the director said – Even today when I call an actor or invite him to meet. He says- Where is your office? I say- I don’t have an office. You tell me where to come. Or we met in a coffee shop. I will tell you which coffee shops because I cannot afford all the coffee shops in Versova. Even now I am standing at such a phase of life.

Call me to meet him in the studio. The executive asks where should I park the car? I say- I don’t have a car, I don’t even have a scooter. That’s why they ask me how I will come. I tell them that if the location is nearby, I will come by auto, if it is far away, I will take the bus. Even after 20 years and doing four feature films, these things have not changed for me.

facing financial crisis for years

The director told that he is financially ruined due to his latest release Zoram. They don’t have money to pay rent. They are living with this insecurity. He says- I have found peace by thinking that this is not going to change for the rest of my life so why should I change. I don’t know whether I will be able to pay the fees to my cook next month or not. All these things are going through my mind. My insecurities are real and they have grown to such an extent that the consequences will be felt tomorrow, not two years from now. So I have to keep working. Because I don’t know from where I will get the check next time.

Devashish doesn’t know what his next film will be. He says- I am working on 8 stories simultaneously. Because I don’t know which story will get the green signal. The director’s movie ‘Zoram’ was badly hit.
