Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections were completed on Friday. More than 145,000 students voted on the university’s North and South campuses. According to the office of the chief electoral officer of DUSU, a total of 1,45,893 students from 52 colleges voted for the new president, vice-chancellor, secretary and joint secretaries as of 5:45 pm. As of this writing, data for the remaining universities has not yet been released. Heavy police presence was deployed in the northern and southern constituencies to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections. Police were seen patrolling the campus on motorcycles.

As a result, the suspense over the election results has further deepened. Because, the Delhi High Court expressed displeasure over the irregularities in the election campaign and prohibited the announcement of the election results till the order. The case will now be heard in court on October 21, and it is said that in this case, the election results can only be announced after that. In response, Delhi University executive committee member Rajesh Jha said the outcome would depend on when the court announces it.

On the other hand, DUSU election returning officer Rajesh Singh told PTI that the counting of votes will take place after the next court hearing. He said: “The court will now hear the case on October 21. Only after that we can decide when the counting of votes will take place. It is possible that the counting of votes will take place after the court hearing. Let us tell you that voting is conducted in two phases. Voting for morning school students will continue till 1 pm, while the second phase of voting for evening school students will start at 3 pm and continue till 7.30 pm. A total of 21 candidates are in the fray, including 8 for the post of Chairman, 5 for the post of Vice Chairman, and 4 each for the posts of Secretary and Joint Secretary.

How many candidates are there for which position?

The leading candidates this year are the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the Congress-backed National Students Union of India (NSUI), the left-wing student body All India Students’ Union (AISA) and the Indian Students Union (AISA). SFI). ABVP currently holds the largest number of seats among student organizations and holds the positions of president, vice president and joint secretary. The position of secretary is held by NSUI.

Who are the contenders for which position?

A tussle for the chairperson’s post is expected between ABVP’s Rishabh Chaudhary, NSUI’s Raunak Khatri and AISA’s Savi Gupta. Rishabh Chaudhary, a resident of Ganaur, Sonipat, graduated from Shyam Lal College and is currently a student of Buddhist Studies. Savi Gupta is a third-year law student at Second Law Center. ABVP’s Bhanu Pratap Singh, NSUI’s Yash Nandal and AISA’s Ayush Mandal are vying for the vice-presidential post. ABVP has appointed Mitravinda Karnawal, a third-year History (Hons) student of Lakshmibai College, as its candidate for the post of Secretary. His competitors are Namrata Jeff Meena of NSUI and Anamika K of SFI. PGDAV Evening School Hindi (Honours) graduate Aman Kapasia is the candidate for the post of ABVP joint secretary and will compete against NSUI’s Lokesh Chaudhary and SFI’s Sneha Agarwal.
