Digital transactions in the country are growing rapidly and the habit of carrying cash in people’s pockets is almost over. This has also affected the presence of paper currency in the market. In this regard, the Congress MPs wrote to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, raising the issue of shortage of small denomination notes in the market. He said that due to the shortage of these notes, a lot of troubles have been caused.

Concerns about 10, 20, 50 rupee notes
Congress MP Manickam Tagore has written to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, drawing her attention to the acute shortage of low-value currency notes. In the letter, he wrote that Rs 10, Rs 20 and Rs 50 notes are now rare in the market, due to which rural areas in particular and urban poor communities are facing inconvenience and problems.

“Stop printing to promote UPI…”
The Congress leader also posted on social media in this regard. Meanwhile, a photo of the letter to the finance minister on September 17 was also shared. Citing various reports, he said that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has stopped printing 10, 20 and 50 rupee notes to promote UPI and digital transactions. Due to this, people living in poor communities in rural and urban areas are unable to use digital payments and are facing problems.

MPs say: This is a violation of fundamental rights
Manikham Tagore said in the letter that the need to promote digital payments is understandable, but the lives of those who do not have access to digital payment infrastructure are being affected, especially those living in rural areas. The Congress Party said the move violated people’s basic right to access the currency they need for daily transactions. He said that this not only brings difficulties to ordinary people, but also to small traders, street vendors and daily workers who rely more on cash transactions.

Nirmala Sitharaman made this request
In his letter, Manikham Tagore asked Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to instruct the Reserve Bank of India to resume printing and distribution of these low-value notes to meet the needs of the public. This will ensure that there is sufficient supply of these small-value notes to meet the needs of the public. In addition to this, he also urged the Finance Minister to take steps to improve digital payment infrastructure in rural areas.
