Khalid Hussain, Minister of Minority Affairs in the interim government of Bangladesh, talked about the situation of minorities inside the country. He said that such situations arise when there is revolution and political change. In the changed political situation, miscreants become active. These are criminals and strict action will be taken against them, the government is committed and determined to maintain communal harmony in Bangladesh.
He further said that cases of violence against minorities are sporadic. Bangladeshi Hindus have faith in the government. Not a single Hindu has gone to India from Bangladesh since the students’ protest, which shows that they feel safe in Bangladesh.
‘All citizens are equal in Bangladesh’
Khalid Hussain said, ‘Bangladesh is a secular nation, not a fundamentalist one. The Bangladeshi constitution gives equal rights to citizens of all religious faiths without any discrimination. The Ministry of Religious Affairs in the country has created welfare trusts for Hindus, Buddhists and Christians. We are working together with everyone to ensure communal harmony.’
He further said that letters have been issued to deputy collectors across Bangladesh to ensure the safety of minorities. Written instructions have been given to 50 thousand mosques across Bangladesh to give the message of communal harmony and brotherhood before namaz.

‘Minorities in Bangladesh are in better condition than India’
Minister Khalid Hussain said that special arrangements have been made to ensure security during Janmashtami and Durga Puja, there is no security problem. The allegations are politically motivated. The condition of minorities in Bangladesh is better than that of minorities in India. He said that Yunus will have a meeting with important Hindu leaders tomorrow at 2 pm, we hope to win their confidence.
He further said that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the creator of independent Bangladesh, the angry mob damaged the statues. Bangabandhu is revered by all the people and parties of Bangladesh. The interim government is focused on ensuring law and order, political stability and economic stability. The people of Bangladesh also want reforms. Once this is achieved, the interim government is committed to forming an independent and fair election commission and holding elections. However, it is difficult to give any time frame for this.

‘India helped Bangladesh a lot’
Khalidu Hussain says that Bangladesh is a big country, India has helped Bangladesh a lot. We expect India’s continued help, cooperation and support in building a strong, peaceful and prosperous Bangladesh. The US, UK and the European Union have supported Bangladesh. We also expect India’s support because we are neighbors and our issues are similar.
