An elderly man died after consuming “toilet cleaner” in the guise of alcohol in a drunken state in Uttarakhand’s Pauri district. The deceased has been identified as 67-year-old Bhagwan Singh, a resident of Jamla village. The police have filled the Panchnama with the bodies and handed them over to relatives after post-mortem.
After returning from the wedding, I drank “toilet cleaner”
Bhagwan Singh returned home on Sunday night after attending his niece’s wedding but was in a drunken state, Paoli police station in-charge Amarjit Singh said, quoting family members. Toilet cleaner is stored in a glass bottle of water in the house. Singer was drunk and accidentally drank “toilet cleaner”. He drank it, thinking it was alcohol. Singh’s health started deteriorating after he drank toilet cleaner, after which his family took him to Paoli District Hospital, about 13 km from the village, where he died on Monday.
Pauri chief medical officer Dr Praveen Kumar said the body has been handed over to the family after autopsy. Due to the death of Bhagwan Singh, the family situation was not good. The villagers were also surprised by such an incident.
Those who drink alcohol and boycott households will be fined NT$50,000
Meanwhile, let us tell you that in many hilly areas of Uttarakhand, alcohol is not allowed at weddings. There are provisions to impose fines on concerned families who do not comply. On November 15, under the leadership of Udli village chief Bhagchand Bisht, Mahila Mangal Dal and other village organizations held a meeting and unanimously decided to impose a fine of Rs 50,000 on drinkers.
