The BJP had seen the Triple B formula as a bet for victory in Jharkhand, but how has it turned into a problem now?

Shanpai Soren and Arjun Munda

The BJP has gone all out to win the battle in the Jharkhand Assembly elections. In order to defeat the Mukti Morcha and Congress alliance in Jharkhand, the BJP worked hard to create a political environment that would bring Chhapai Soren and key leaders of the JMM into its fold. Not only that, the BJP made a major political move by fielding the son, daughter-in-law and wife of the former chief minister on the electoral field to win vulnerable seats under the triple-B model, but now it has caused dissatisfaction among party leaders. Therefore, It is becoming a noose for the BJP.

In the Jharkhand elections, all eyes are on Ghatshehra, Potka, Jamshedpur East, Jagannathpur assembly seats as the BJP has lost in all four seats Placed triple B bet. The BJP has fielded Babulal Soren, son of former Prime Minister Champai Soren, as its candidate from Ghatshila seat and gave ticket to Potka seat Meera Munda, wife of former Prime Minister Arjun Munda. Purnima Das, daughter-in-law of former chief minister and Odisha governor Raghuvar Das, has emerged as candidate from the Jamshedpur East seat. Similarly, Geeta Koda, wife of former CM Madhu Koda, also bagged votes from Jagannathpur seat.

Leaders take a rebellious stance

The BJP adopted the Triple B model in four assembly seats that it failed to win in 2019. From a political point of view, the opposition parties, especially the JMM and the Congress, were considered strong in the seats and hence the BJP hatched plans to win the electoral battle by fielding the son, daughter-in-law and wife of the former chief minister. The BJP saw this as a winning formula, but political tensions increased due to the rebellious stance taken by party leaders.

From Santal to Kolhan, BJP tangles

If we look at the political perspective of Jharkhand, Santhal region has 18 seats and Kolkhan region has 14 seats. The BJP hopes to return to power by defeating the JMM-Congress alliance in the elections, but the turmoil in both areas after the candidate list was released has heightened tensions for the BJP. Many leaders, including former ministers Lewis Marandi and Raj Paliwar, angry at not getting votes, were preparing to contest the elections as independents or join the JMM. Not only Lewis Marandi and Raj Paliwar, Satyanand Jha Batul who won the election as the BJP candidate from Nala seat also Has quit the party.

Political tensions become a winning formula

In the 2019 Assembly elections, the BJP suffered a crushing defeat in 14 of the 18 seats in San Pargana. Kolhan’s situation was worse than Santal’s. The BJP cannot even open an account there. JMM has been completely wiped out. Leaders associated with the BJP have taken a rebellious stance in many seats in Kolkhan district. While there was objection to giving the ticket to the daughter-in-law of former chief minister Raghuvar Das, giving the ticket to Champai Soren and his son caused resentment. In this context, what the BJP sees as a winning formula in Jharkhand is becoming a political tension for the party.
