After Devendra Fadnavis became the chief minister, the dominance of the Brahmin community among the leaders running the states increased. The Brahmins, who account for about 5% of the population, currently have four chief ministers in the country, second only to OBC and Thakur. Around seven chief ministers of the country belong to the OBC community. Thakur has had 5 chief ministers.
Apart from these figures, there is an even more shocking figure regarding the caste of the Chief Minister. The country does not have a chief minister from the Dalit community, which constitutes 18% of the population. Instead, 4 tribes, accounting for about 9% of the population, are ruling the country.
The country has two chief ministers who do not believe in the caste system and call themselves atheists.
Brahmins rule 4 states
Bhajanlal Sharma hails from the Brahmin community. In 2023, the Bharatiya Janata Party appointed him chief minister of Rajasthan. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is also a Brahmin. At a parliamentary meeting, Himanta declared himself a Kannauj. In 2021, Himanta took over the charge of Assam. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is also a Brahmin.
Mamta was first appointed chief minister in 2011. In 2021, he will serve as chairman for the third time. Now, with Devendra Fadnavis becoming the chief minister, the number of Brahmin chief ministers has increased.
Naidu and Reddy are upper castes but not Brahmins
Telangana Chief Minister Ravensh Reddy belongs to the upper caste community. The Reddy community to which Ravens belongs belongs to the upper caste category of Telangana state. The Reddy community has considerable influence in the politics of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Likewise, Chandrababu Naidu is from the Kamma community, which falls under the general category in Andhra Pradesh.
The country does not have a Dalit chief minister
After 2022, there will not be any Dalit chief minister in the country. In 2022, Congress appointed a Dalit from Punjab as chief minister for the last time. At that time, Charanjit Singh Channi was entrusted with important tasks.
Currently, there is not even a Dalit chief minister in a single state. However, states like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana definitely have Dalit deputy chief ministers.
Thakus also dominated the CM chairmanship
Currently, five states across the country have chief ministers from the Thakur community. Among them, Yogi Adityanath’s name ranks at the top. Yogi is the chief minister of the country’s largest state. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also belongs to this community.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu also belongs to the Thakur community. Suhu is the chief minister from the Congress side. N Biren Singh of Manipur is also from Thakur community.
Apart from this, newly appointed Delhi Chief Minister Atish also belongs to the Thakur caste. Atishi is the chief minister of the Aam Aadmi Party.
The dominance of ethnic minorities has not diminished
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is from the Muslim community and enjoys minority status in India. Likewise, Bhagwant Mann of the Sikh community is also the Chief Minister of Punjab. Sikhs also enjoy minority status in India.
Conrad Sangma is a Christian and the Chief Minister of Meghalaya. Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Denghowa also believes in Christianity. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu is a Buddhist by birth. Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang also believes in Buddhism.
There are also 2 atheists on the CM chairmanship
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin is from the Dravidian community, but Stalin has often questioned India’s caste system. Stalin also once declared himself an atheist. Stalin’s son Udayanidhi has been targeting Hinduism.
Similarly, Kerala Chief Minister P Vijayan is from the Ezhava community. It has OBC status in Kerala, but Vijayan is also against the caste system. Vijayan has repeatedly described the caste system as the most dangerous system.
Chief ministers of the country’s 4 tribes
Nephew Leo is the chief minister of Nagaland and belongs to the Angami Naga tribe. It has tribal status in Nagaland. Likewise, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi also hails from a tribal community.
Vishnudev Sai was appointed as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh in 2023. Sai also belongs to the tribal community. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren also hails from the tribal community. For a long time, four states in the country have had tribal chief ministers.

Naib Singh Saini hails from the Saini community of OBC and is the Chief Minister of Haryana. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also belongs to the Ahir caste of OBC. Similarly, Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangaswamy also belongs to the OBC community. He is from Vaniya caste.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha is also from the OBC community. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also belongs to the backward community.
