Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan created a blast in 2023 by giving three big hits back to back, ‘Pathan’, ‘Jawaan’ and ‘Dinky’. This super success was a blast for Shahrukh’s fans because their favorite star was making a comeback on the big screen after a big failure in 2018. His film ‘Zero’ flopped badly at the box office.
Even before this, his films ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ and ‘Fan’ had flopped, while ‘Raees’ could not do great wonders. In such a situation, after the flop of ‘Zero’, the public was waiting to see how Shahrukh would make a comeback after this big failure. Now Shahrukh has told how he was feeling in the slow phase after ‘Zero’.
Shahrukh told why he took a break
In a new interview, Shahrukh has told that he did not take a break because the films were not running continuously. He was on break because he did not feel like getting up in the morning and going for the shoot.
He said that after the release of ‘Zero’ in December 2018, he had put all his plans on hold from January 2019. Recalling that period, he said that he was about to start shooting for a film but he called the producer and told him that he did not want to work for a year.
Calling himself ‘unprofessional’, Shah Rukh told Variety, ‘I have always said that the day I don’t feel like waking up in the morning and going to a shoot, I don’t want to work. To tell the truth, it was not because of the failure of the films. I was supposed to do a film in January, and this started happening to me in December. This was a very unprofessional thing on my part. I just woke up and said, ‘I don’t want to go shoot this film.’
The producer did not believe what Shahrukh said
Shahrukh further told that when he called the producer of this film and told him his feelings, he could not believe it. Shahrukh told, ‘He told me- ‘This cannot happen. You don’t sit for a minute without working. If you don’t like the film then say no, don’t say that you won’t work for a year. And after one and a half years, he called back and said – ‘I was very surprised that you are not really working.’ So I just didn’t feel like working. I didn’t want to act. Because for me acting is really a very organic thing, very, very organic.
Before taking a break, some of Shahrukh’s films were not doing as well as was expected from them. At that time many people said that Shahrukh was doing too experimental films. But Shahrukh says that there was something special in his films which did not work.
He said, ‘Whatever film I do, be it ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ or those films like ‘Zero’ or ‘Fan’ which did not do well – I think it was an interesting film. I love that movie. Some of my films that I love are the ones that didn’t do very well.
Cinema should avoid morality
Shahrukh said that ‘Cinema is a medium of mass communication’ and it speaks to a lot of people. ‘It should not be made intellectual. This should not be preached. I always say that cinema should not moralize. It should be simple. Some of the films which did not do well were so personal that they were not very simple, they were so personal that they were very limited,’ said Shahrukh.
Talking about Shahrukh’s work front, he will now be seen in Sujoy Ghosh’s film ‘King’. In this film, he will be seen with his daughter Suhana Khan and reports suggest that Abhishek Bachchan is playing the role of villain in this film.
