The situation between India and China regarding Eastern Ladakh has started to normalize. Military sources confirmed that patrols in Demchok and Depsang will resume by the end of this month. Indian and Chinese soldiers will conduct coordinated patrols to avoid confrontation. According to sources, the disengagement process will be completed on October 28 and 29.
According to Army sources, the new agreement applies only to Depsang and Demchok and not elsewhere. The agreement does not apply to the buffer zone including the shores of Pangong Lake. Troops from both sides (India and China) will be restored to pre-April 2020 status and will patrol the areas patrolled before April 2020.
At the same time, ground commanders’ meetings will also be organized regularly.
Only a certain number of soldiers can patrol. According to the agreement, both parties will inform each other during patrols to avoid misunderstandings. According to sources, multiple talks have been held at various levels to normalize the situation.
The disengagement process will be completed from October 28 to 28, and patrols will begin at the end of this month. During this period, all temporary structures such as shacks, tents and troops will be dismantled. Both sides will be watching the area closely. The patrol points at Depsang and Demchok will be our traditional patrol locations until April 2020.
