After the rebuke of the Supreme Court, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has come on the back foot. He issued a statement on Friday and apologized unconditionally to the Supreme Court. Reddy said that I have the highest respect and full faith in the Indian judiciary. I understand that the comments attributed to me in some press reports of August 29 have given the impression that I am questioning the judicial discretion of the court, but I reiterate that I firmly believe in the judicial process.

Reddy further said, I express my unconditional regret for the statements made in the press reports. The comments attributed to me in such reports have been taken out of context. I have unconditional respect and the highest regard for the judiciary and its independence. As a firm believer in the Constitution of India and its ethos, I give and will continue to give the highest respect to the judiciary.

Let us tell you that Telangana CM Reddy had said on Wednesday that due to the deal between BJP and BRS in the Lok Sabha elections, K. Kavitha got bail in just five months. Manish Sisodia got bail after 15 months. While Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is still in jail. The Supreme Court had expressed displeasure over this comment of Reddy. Justice BR Gavai had said that Reddy is in a constitutional post. But he has given a very irresponsible statement. The court takes decisions according to the law, not by asking the leaders. It does not matter to us what the leaders or anyone else says about our decisions.

Let us tell you that K. Kavitha is an accused in the money laundering case related to the liquor policy scam of Delhi. On August 27, the Supreme Court granted bail to K. Kavitha in the Delhi Excise Policy Scam case. The bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice KV Vishwanathan has granted bail to K. Kavitha in both ED and CBI cases. The court said that the investigation of CBI-ED is complete, so the custody of the appellant (K. Kavitha) is not necessary for the investigation. K. Kavitha has been in custody for 5 months. There are 493 witnesses in this case. There are 50 thousand documents. In such a situation, the trial is not likely to be completed soon, so bail is granted.

After the court’s decision, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s comment came to the fore. He said, it is a fact that BRS worked for the victory of BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. There is also talk that K. Kavitha got bail due to the deal between BRS and BJP. On Thursday, the Supreme Court expressed displeasure over this statement and reprimanded Revanth. The court said, such statements can create apprehensions in the minds of the people. The court asked, do we give orders after consulting political parties?

A three-judge bench headed by Justice BR Gavai told senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Reddy, “Did you read in the newspaper what he said? Read what he has said. What kind of statement is this by a responsible chief minister, it can create apprehension in the minds of people. Is this a statement that should be made by a chief minister? A constitutional functionary is speaking like this.”

The bench said, why should they drag the court into political rivalry? Do we pass orders after discussions with political parties? It does not matter to us if politicians or anyone criticizes our orders. We perform our duty according to conscience and oath. The Supreme Court also said that it is the fundamental duty of political parties to show respect to the institutions.
